The Sougia ferry.
No road runs along this part of the south coast. The boat does.
Where the boat goes
The ANENDYK ferry calls at Sougia on its way along the south coast: west to Paleochora, east to Agia Roumeli at the foot of the Samaria gorge, and on to Loutro and Hora Sfakion. In some months boats also continue to the island of Gavdos.
How long it takes
Sougia to Paleochora takes about 45 minutes, and Sougia to Agia Roumeli about 40 to 50 minutes.
Example timetable: autumn 2026
These were the departures from 7 September to 31 October 2026. Times change every season, so use them to plan the shape of your day, not the minute.

Besides the ferry, Sougia Cruises runs a taxi boat from the harbour. In October 2026 its board listed Sougia to Lissos at 10:00, Lissos back to Sougia at 15:30, and Sougia to Tripiti at 08:30. Both trips run when at least five people go.
Before you go
Sailings are cancelled when the sea is rough. Check the current timetable the evening before, or ask at the harbour.

Samaria by boat
The afternoon boat from Agia Roumeli is what makes the Samaria gorge a day trip from Sougia: walk down the gorge, then sail home along the coast.
