2,800 hours of sun

From here until the sun drops into the sea somewhere west of Paleochora, there is nothing between you and it.

In July there is hardly a cloud, no haze over the water and nothing tall enough to cast a shadow. The sun is low and gold in spring and autumn, white and vertical in August, and the mountains behind the village decide when it leaves.

The south coast of Crete gets more than all of them.

September – October

Autumn sunsets

In September and October the evenings come earlier, and after a day of autumn clouds the sky over the mountains can burn for half an hour.
