Names from the sea

01 · The residence0 m

At the edge of Sougia, where the Cretan mountains take over.

Eleven rooms. Each one is named after a creature of the Greek seas, most of them from the Hellenic Trench, the deep water off the southern coast of Crete that gave AVYSSOS its name.

White walls, natural materials and clean lines. The garden is outside the window, and the mountains rise just beyond it. AVYSSOS is a minimalist retreat built for stillness: wake up to birdsong and goat bells drifting up from the valley, with wild herbs in the air.

02 · Interiorsquiet by design

The design is deliberately quiet.

Nothing competes with the light. Linen, wood, white plaster and a few blues borrowed from the sea, so the view stays the loudest thing in the room.

02 · Opening planned for 2027−12 m

We will show you the rooms when they are finished. Not before, and not as computer images.

AVYSSOS is being built at the edge of Sougia, just above the village on the quiet road down to the harbour. Eleven rooms, a reception, and the two of us. Until the rooms are ready, you can watch the residence grow in Our story.

We do not serve breakfast or meals. The cafés and tavernas of Sougia are just below, in the village.

04 · Named after the deep

Eleven creatures, one sea.

Each room carries the name of a creature of the Greek deep. Seven live in the waters off the southern coast of Crete and along the Hellenic Trench, the deep-sea arc whose deepest point, 5,109 m, lies off the western Peloponnese. Four are rare visitors, seen here only now and then.

Numbered from the shore to the open sea: D1 lives closest to the beach, D11 dives deepest.
